Mary Ellen (Steele) Smart

passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on April 8, 1935, to Winslow and Margaret (Peters) Steele.

In addition to her parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Darius "Sam" Smart of 66 years.

She is survived by her children, Maggie (Carole) Gunder and husband, Mike of Tipp City, Steve Smart and wife Vivian of Eaton, and Laura Francis and husband, Stephen, of Spring Valley; grandchildren, Erin Francis Blackaby (Brian) and their children, Aubree and Porter; Andrew Francis; Jessica Gomez (Enrique), and their children Natalia Martinez and Miguel Alejandro Martinez; Alaina Hammond; Jason Hammond (Amber) and their children Emily, Kaylie and Leah; Jennifer Hammond and her son Eli Steele; Darrel Samuel Smart and son Daxon; and Justin Smart (Ashley); step grandchildren: Michael Gunder (Krystle) and their children Ryan, Jayce, Emma and Alex; Adam Holland and daughter Reagen; and Courtney Alspaugh.

Friends may call on the family Monday January 10, 2022 from 11am to 12pm at the Preble Memory Gardens Funeral Center, 3377 US Rt. 35, West Alexandria, OH. Funeral will follow at 12pm.
