Ruth Border

Ruth Border, 82, of New Paris, OH, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 22, 2020. Born on April 6, 1938 in Park County, IN, she was the daughter and one of three children born to the now late Shelby B. and Lola R. (Delp) Broady. She attended Montezuma High School in Montezuma, IN. She then married James M. Border on June 25, 1955. Both Ruth and Jim had a heart for church missions and ministry. Called by God, they moved to New Paris, OH to become a part of the New Creations Chapel ministry to help and minister to those struggling with life's difficulties. Over the years, they opened their hearts and home to many who affectionately called her "Mom". They never turned away anyone who was in need. During their time with New Creations, Jim worked to maintain the campgrounds, and Ruth established and ran the Equestrian Program for 20 years, teaching in the classroom and the stables and helping participants learn the value and rewards of hard work. After New Creations Chapel ministry came to an end, they were able to maintain their residence on the property they called home for so long. They went on to became members of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in New Paris. In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by daughter Beverly Hodgson in February of 2016; sons-in-law Gary Joe Leming in June of 2015 and Larry Joe Tedder in June of 1995 and Jim Hodgson in May of 2009; and brothers Kenneth and Dick Broady. Ruth is survived by beloved husband and helpmate of 65 years James M. Border; daughters Robin Leming of Kemmerer, Wyoming, Shelly Tedder-Brown and husband Terry Lee of Gas City, Indiana, and Nancy Atteberry of Tamarac, Florida; grandchildren Dustin Tedder, James Martin, Jesse Hodgson, Jennifer DeLima and Lindsey Atteberry; great grandchildren Madison, Collin and Kacee Tedder, Dillon McKenzie, Zoe DeLima, Leah, J.J, Abby and Jake Hodson. Friends may call on the family from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jim Ernst presiding and conclude with a brief closing ceremony at the graveside at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery.
