Harley L. Washington

Harley L. Washington, age 90, of West Alexandria, OH, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, June 8, 2015 following an extended illness. Born January 24, 1925 in Charleston, WV, he was a son of the late Harley L., Sr. & Ila (McNealey) Washington. During WW II, Harley served 13 months with the Merchant Marine and for 2 years with the US Army during the Korean War from 1950 - 1952. He was a self employed heavy equipment operator for over 50 years: was a longtime member of the St. John Church in West Alexandria; 60 year member of King Hiram Masonic Lodge of West Alexandria; enjoyed gardening and was well known for his pumpkin patch. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother George Washington. Survived by wife Eileen (Kesling) Washington, whom he married September 4, 1953: children David W. (Anne Marie) Washington of Brookville, OH; Jane C. (Gene Spurlock) Washington of West Alexandria: grandchildren Melinda M. Burr of Eaton; Justin Washington of Greenville, OH; Eric (Krystal) Washington of New Madison, OH; great grandchildren Logan Deeter, Emma and Kennedy Burr, Layne Washington, Grace Washington, Kayla Washington, Kayson Washington: brother Charles (Mary) Washington of West Alexandria: numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, June 12, 2015 at St. John Church - 20 E. South St. - West Alexandria, OH. Pastor Mark Moore presiding. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US. Rt. 35 - West Alexandria.
