William Hickman, Sr Obituary

William E. Hickman, Sr.

86, of West Alexandria, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024.

He was born March 1, 1938, in Minford, Ohio, to the late John H. and Amy H. (McCain) Hickman.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Hickman; and brothers, Arnold “Skip,” Harold, Bob, Arthur Ray “Hick”; sisters, Nelle, Wilma, and Carolyn.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Gary) Barnes; son, Bill (Tonya) Hickman; grandchildren, Spencer (Wendy) Decker, Billy Smith, Amber (Brandon) Warner, and Travis Hickman; great grandchildren, Zachary, Max, Emma, and Derek; brother, Paul; sister, Alice; and many nieces and nephews.

William's commitment to serving others was evident throughout his life. He proudly served his nation in the U.S. Air Force, where his dedication and bravery earned him the respect of his peers and superiors alike. His love for his country never waned, and he continued to serve his fellow veterans as a volunteer with the Preble County Honor Guard, ensuring that those who served were honored with dignity and respect.

In addition to his military service, William was deeply involved in his community as a member of the King Hiram Lodge #88 in West Alexandria, where he attained the esteemed rank of 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. His contributions to the lodge and his dedication to its principles were unwavering, and he leaves behind a legacy of brotherhood and camaraderie.

Professionally, William enjoyed a successful career spanning 26 years with Parker Hannifin. He approached his work with the same sense of duty and commitment that he displayed in every aspect of his life.

Outside of his professional and volunteer endeavors, William was an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, and Cincinnati Bengals. Gathered around the television with family, he found joy in rooting for his favorite teams and sharing his love of sports with those around him.
