William C. Monahan

William C. Monahan, age 83, of Eaton, OH, passed away Tuesday evening, August 19, 2014. Born January 12, 1931, he was a son of the late Joseph Peter & Alma Marie (Bowman) Monahan. A graduate of Chaminade High School in Dayton, he attended the University of Michigan before serving with the US Army during the Korean War. While serving with the Army, he was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division as a tank instructor and was on special assignment in experimental projects. He also played football for the Army. Following the war, he returned to college earning his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the University of Dayton. Bill worked as the plant manager for Dayton Flexible Products/Baxter in Eaton for many years. He also sold insurance and did electrical work. Following his retirement, he went to work part-time as a courier for Preble County Juvenile Court. He was a longtime active and faithful member of Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton and was a former member of the Church Council. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by step son Steven Byrd: sister Vera Pahl: and brother Richard Monahan. Survived by wife Donna M. (Kimmel) Monahan whom he married June 29, 1968: daughters Deborah Monahan of Oakwood, OH; Jennifer Monahan of Centerville, OH; Susan Tolnitch & husband George of Springboro, OH; and Julie Crainich & husband Vic of Monroe, OH: grandsons Zachary Shock and James Crainich. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 pm Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH. Friends may call on the family from 1:00 - 3:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. The Preble County Honor Guard will provide the honors at the graveside.
