Ruth A. Gearhart

Ruth A. Gearhart, of New Lebanon, OH, went to her heavenly home at the age of 99, early Sunday evening, November 1, 2015. Born June 20, 1916 in Perry Township, she was a daughter of the late Horace & Mabel (Utz) Bowser. She was a longtime member of the Brethren Church of New Lebanon. Ruth worked alongside her husband Paul at the Toot in New Lebanon, the Parkmoor and The Mug in West Alexandria and Gearhart's Cafeteria in New Lebanon. She later worked with her daughter and grandchildren at K's Restaurant in Brookville. An avid bowler, basketball fan and fisherman, she greatly enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in their school and sporting activities. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by beloved husband Paul E. Gearhart on January 5, 1995: son Ronald Eugene Gearhart June 27, 2014: brother Ralph Bowser: sisters Opal Holloway and Mildred Hern: and son-in-law John Dafler. Ruth is survived by children Gary L. Gearhart & wife Kay of Lima, OH; Kaye Dafler of New Lebanon; and Kenton P. Gearhart of Vandalia: 10 grandchildren: 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren: daughter-in-law Julia Gearhart of Vandalia: sister-in-law Marjorie Roesch & husband Dale of New Lebanon: and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff of Brookhaven Nursing Center, with special thanks to the Memory Care Unit. Friends may call on the family from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor and great nephew Tony Price presiding.
